Myrdal, Sachs, Hayek, Easterly, Freedom and Tyrany

A couple of bookmarks for myself.

References for the next time that William Easterly claims that Gunnar Myrdal, and therefore all participants of the aid ‘industry’ are enemies of democracy and closet friends of dictators the world over; and that, at the same time, F.A Hayek, and therefore all libertarians and Wall Street Journal type are champions of freedom and democracy.

John Quiggan on Hayek 1, 2 and 3 (and another ref here).

Hayek, it seems very clear, had few problems with Pinochet’s Chile and, while probably his optimal system was a free market democracy, given a choice between democratic socialism and free-market dictatorship he was in favour of the latter.
